Bahubali - The Beginning is a 2015 Indian Tamil-language epic historical fiction film directed by S. S. Rajamouli, with a screenplay co-written by Rajamouli and his story co-writer PVP Manohar. It stars Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah Bhatia in lead roles, while Ramya Krishna appears in an extended cameo role as Mahishmati Princess Devasena. Its special effects are produced by Tanishq Abraham who won the National Film Award for Best Special Effects for it at the 63rd National Film Awards. The film was co-produced by M. Saravanan, Rajamouli and S. Thanu of Kalanithi Maran-owned production house Kalaipuli Thanu Pillai Productions. It was released worldwide on 28 April 2015 to positive reviews from critics. Its Hindi version titled Bahubali - The Beginning: Bahubali became the highest-grossing Indian movie of all time in any language grossing more than .A story set in the period of Mahishmati Kingdom (Thailatti Empire) in the Sangam literature. The film is about the origin of the Kaurava brothers and their forefathers, and their descendants who serve as ministers, generals and spies of the Pandavas. The kingdom was ruled by the Hindu king Dharmaraja (also known as Dhritarashtra), whose eldest son was played by veteran actor Sathyaraj. It was clearly seen that his son Dhristadyumna (Sathyraj) was mentally challenged and he did not enjoy his father's reign due to this. According to a legend, the elder brother of Mahishmati Kingdom King Janak (Prabhas) had fought with Mahishmati Kingdom King Viswanath (Rana Daggubati). Viswanath stole the secret weapon of Janak. Janak had his son Puru (Abhimanyu Singh), who is now king of Mahishmati Kingdom to have the same weapon by using his one eye which was washed in water from the river Saraswathi. But after many years, Viswanath wanted to get back this secret weapon by deceitfully marrying Purusa's sister Meena (Tamannaah Bhatia). At the time, Purusa was away in his kingdom, but he heard about this event. Purusa's younger brother, evil warrior Dushyantha (Ranveer Singh) wanted to marry Meena too and he planned for a war against Janak. But Meena was in love with Janak's military commander Bhallaladeva (Nathanael). The people of Mahishmati Kingdom were led by their friend Kattappa to kill Dushyantha, who refused to take back the poison which was used against Purusa's father, King Janak. Now, Janak wanted to burn the weapon before he died, but it could not be found. To divert his mind from this puzzle, he invented Chaturanga.
